Biological monitoring in Kyushu, Japan (August ,2012)

福島第一原発事故による影響を知るため、九州の生物を観察してきた。九州の食品は安全と考えられており、九州産の様々な食品が日本中に広く流通している。このため九州の生物を注意深く観察することは食の安全にとって重要だ。

I went to Kyushu ( southernmost of the four main islands of Japan ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyushu ) to see effects of Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident. Because foods of Kyushu are considered safe, various kind of vegetables, fruits, meets, fish and so on are widely consumed by Japanese. 柳川でウナギを食べたが、調理前のウナギの撮影を忘れたので写真はこれしかない。ウナギの形態には異常は見られなかった。写真はウナギのせいろ蒸し。

I visited Yanagawa city, Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. I ate an eel which is famous for its good taste in Japan. This picture shows cooked eel which called “Unaginoseiromushi”. When I saw the cooked eels, they have no deformity. It was delicious, but I had forgotten to take a picture of living eel. So, this is an only picture which I can show you the eel.

福島第一原発から遠く離れている九州の食材は安全だと考えられている。実際に九州に行き、いくつかの生物を観察してきたが原発事故による明らかな影響は認められなかった。九州の食材は安全だと考えられているからこそ、九州の生物の観察が重要だ。

Kyushu of Japan is far from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant and many Japanese believe that foods of Kyushu are safe. So, it’s very important to observe creatures of non-contaminated area such as Kyushu, because it's products are widely consumed in Japan. I cannot find any effect of the accident in kyushu at the moment. I think we have to continue to see all species carefully to know health effects to human beings.

東京の生き物たち

福島第一原発事故による影響を知るために東京都内の公園で生き物を観察している。現在、東京ではたくさんのセミを見ることができる。運が良ければ飛んでいるカブトムシも見られる。著者は珍しい小型のカブトムシを見つけた。小さいカブトムシがいるという話を聞いたことがあったが、実際に見たのは初めてである。

Biological monitoring in Tokyo, Japan.

I observe various creatures at the park in Japan to know effects of Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident. Now, everyone can see many cicadas on the trees at the park in Tokyo. If you are lucky, you may be able to see a flying beetle. Fortunately, I find a rare small beetle at the park in Tokyo. However I have heard that there is a very small beetle, it's my first time to see it for real.

The left beetle is the usual size. The right one is very small. It's my first time to see it. I am very lucky !

現在のところ東京都内の生物に明らかな異常は見られないが、原発事故による影響を知るために自然を観察し続けることは重要である。

東京の生物たち

福島第一原子力発電所で起きた事故による影響を知るために様々な生物を観察している。東京の環境放射線量は通常のレベルに戻っており、現在のところ都内の生物に異常は見られない。
I continue biological monitoring in Tokyo to know effects of Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident. Now, environmental radiation dose have already decreased to the usual level. I cannot find any effect of the accident at the moment. I think we have to continue to observe all species carefully to know health effects to human beings.

I can find various species in Tokyo in this summer.  They seems healthy. And the numbers of them may not be decreased too. I cannot find any abnormality.

福島第一原発事故により、これらの生き物たちも人間と同様に被爆したはずであるが、明らかな異常は見られなかった。

These creatures have exposed to radioactive materials as well as human beings living  in Tokyo, Japan. I cannot find any obvious effect of the accident at the moment.

原発事故から一年経過し、今年の夏は東京都内で生物の観察をしています。今の所、原発事故による影響は見られませんが、人への健康影響を避けるために生物の観察を続ける必要があると思います。


I start biological monitoring in Tokyo Japan to know effects of Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident. However, I cannot find any effect of the accident at the moment, I think we have to continue to observe all species carefully to prevent health effects to human beings.






東京都内で面白い蛾を見つけました。枯葉にそっくりです。完璧に擬態しています。アケビコノハでしょうか。珍しい生物です。

I found this moth(Eudocima tyrannus) in Tokyo, Japan on June 28, 2012. It mimics a dead leaf completely. I am very happy because I can see rare moth.

赤坂見附7番出口付近で魚を釣ってみた。

I tried fishing at Akasaka-Mitsuke , Tokyo.

６匹ほど釣った。ブルーギルが１匹、アマゴが５匹。元気が良く健康だ。形態の異常もない。

I caught 6 fish. This picture shows one Bluegill and 5 Amago.  They are fine and they have no abnormality. They are released after fishing.

Many shrimp （Palaemonidae） live here in Tokyo(Akasaka-Mitsuke). Everyone who visits here can see them in an Aquarium.

夏の虫は無事だった

東京都内で夏の虫たちを見つけた。無事に成虫になっていた。現在、クワガタ４匹、カブトムシを１匹採取したが奇形は無く発育も良好である。日本の梅雨と台風が除染してくれることを期待する。
These insects are found in Japan. They are alive and fine in this summer.  I hope rainy season in Japan may wash out radioactive agents from the site.
